Slow-cooked Chili

Total Time: 8 hrs 20 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 8 hrs

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 1 lb lean ground beef (at least 80%)
  • 1/2 lb bulk italian lamb sausage
  • 1 medium onion, chopped (about 1/2 cup)
  • 1 (28 ounce) can progresso diced tomatoes (undrained)
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 -1 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
  • 1 (15 ounce) can spicy chili beans (undrained)
  • 2 cups progresso chickpeas, drained, rinsed (garbanzo beans, from 19-oz can)
  • sour cream (optional)
  • sliced green onion (optional)

Recipe

  • 1 in 10-inch skillet, cook ground beef, sausage and onion over medium-high heat 5 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently, until beef is thoroughly cooked; drain.
  • 2 in 3 1/2- to 4-quart slow cooker, mix beef mixture with all remaining ingredients
  • 3 cover; cook on low setting 7 to 8 hours. top individual servings with sour cream and green onions.
